Welcome to Shepparton's Aboriginal Community
Strategic Planning and Policy Unit
and Community Art Gallery!

Our community

The Indigenous community of Greater Shepparton is the largest Aboriginal community in Victoria and is in the top 10% (by size) of Aboriginal communities nationally.

Our role

The Strategic Planning and Policy Unit (SPPU) in Shepparton supports the local Aboriginal Community, its leadership and peak organisations, in achieving social, economic and cultural sustainability and equity for the Aboriginal people of Shepparton. SPPU enables the community to participate as equal partners with Government through community engagement, policy development, research and building stakeholder partnerships.

As part of SPPUs community engagement strategy, we host a Community Art Gallery which is a space for local Aboriginal artists to display and sell their art. The art covers a range of styles and mediums including jewellery, emu eggs, paintings and carved and painted didgeridoos.

Our vision

Strong social, economic and cultural sustainability and equity for the Aboriginal people of Greater Shepparton.
